Making visual images is a process of elimination based on current responses to my surroundings and experiences. Editing thoughts, memories and experiences on a page is to rid of excess; in order to, find the closest thing to the truth of that moment. This is the life long challenge - finding the absolute through minimal appearance, but not minimal engagement.
My attempts to make images that speak about immediate responses to this life are merely attempts. I am influenced by so much stimuli from llfe: music, nature, the wind, shadows, water, quietness, the horizon line, a handmade bowl or cup, the natural process of soil in the making, anatomy, the Dalai Lama, poetry, science, quietness, rocks, wood, color, pattern, simplicity and complexity, laughter, sadness, fullness, emptiness and so much more. Each day or moment in the studio is a new and profound experience that taps into some aspect of these stimuli. I work with very little planning, because I need the immediate and raw instance of time and thought to pervade my work.
