Sphere grouping
This piece was built while the tide was out, but while a biomorphic line of seaweed was strewn all the way down the shoreline, as far as the eye could see. I was intrigued by the abundance of grouped seaweed, and I had never experienced the coast like this in my past. I grew up in South Carolina and our annual pilgrimage to the Atlantic coast was always memorable. The sea life, the ebb and flow of the water, and sea creatures, and the sunny or stormy skies will always be a part of my sense memory in that locale.
It took only a few hours for the tide to take the sphere group back to where it belonged.
It was an exciting time to see the disappearance of the forms, and how the water flow left a haunting image in the sand as the spheres flattened, diffused and stretched into fluid quietness.
